
Kevin S. Trowbridge
Since 1995, Kevin S. Trowbridge has served nonprofit, corporate, academic and member-based associations through various professional capacities. He is a social media researcher and strategist who enjoys helping small businesses and local nonprofits leverage new communication strategies to support their organizational missions.
His Twitter and Facebook profiles describe him as a “believer, husband, relator, learner, teacher, maximizer, researcher, social media enthusiast, Apple devotee, Potato Head addict, toy fanatic & gadget guru.” And, Trowbridge is able to fuse those roles and interests as the founder of Social Blueprint Communications, a communication consultancy specializing in relationship-building strategies.
Trowbridge’s primary role is as a faculty member at Belmont University where he teaches public relations courses. He joined the Belmont University faculty in the fall of 2011, coming to Middle Tennessee from Lee University where he taught public relations and journalism since 2005.
In the majority of his classes, Trowbridge utilizes client-based projects to facilitate real-world learning experiences for his students. Through research, planning, implementation and evaluation of multi-faceted communication programs and campaigns, students serve local nonprofits while honing their skills as emerging professionals.
Prior to joining the faculty at Lee, Trowbridge was a doctoral fellow at Regent University, Virginia Beach, Va., where he is a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in communication. He earned the Bachelor of Arts in communication arts with a public relations emphasis from Union University, Jackson, Tenn., and a Master of Arts in communication from The University of Memphis (Tenn.).
Professionally, Trowbridge served as vice president for communications at the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU), an international higher education association headquartered in Washington, D.C. Other prior professional experiences include public relations, marketing, and corporate communications positions in higher education, healthcare and banking/finance.
Professionally, Trowbridge is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the Tennessee Communication Association (TCA), and the American Communication Association (ACA). He is also a member of the PRSA Nashville Chapter and the PRSA Lookout Chapter where he served as president, vice president and professional development/programs chair and PRSSA Liaison. Most recently he served as past president and membership chair for the Lookout Chapter. Trowbridge is currently serving as the chair of the programming committee for the 2012 PRSA Southeast District conference. Additionally, he has also been actively involved with other professional organizations including the International Communication Association (ICA), National Communication Association (NCA), and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
In addition to his institutional and professional activities, Trowbridge enjoys reading about and researching social media, new technology and culture, communication pedagogy, interpersonal and organizational communication, communication theory and applied communication research methods.
Originally from Horse Cave, Ky., Trowbridge and his wife, Robyn, reside in Smyrna, Tenn., with two furry felines—Frosty and Peanut—and a beagle named Bakster.
